Tori Futrell Scores Three in Big Win

Published Oct 12, 2008

The Brenau Golden Tigers soccer team ran their overall record to 7-4 and their SSAC mark to 3-2 with a 4-0 shutout of Auburn-Montgomery (4-7,4-3) today in Alabama. Freshman Tori Futrell came off the bench to score three goals to lead the offensive attack and Goalie Lisa Lesnick recorded her third shutout in a row to anchor the defense. Futrell scored her first goal in the last minute of the first half on a free kick to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead at halftime. Lily Futrell scored next on an assist from Alyssa Schmucker, followed by sister Tori coming back to score with a nice assist by Hannah Martin. Tori then scored for the third time on a breakaway. Brenau outshot AUM 14-6 as Lesnick recorded six saves. Coach Mike Lochstampfor said "This was a big win for us because we have never beaten them and it establishes some momentum as we go into the heart of the conference schedule and fight for a playoff spot." The Tigers will face off with Berry next Saturday in an important SSAC game.
