Fore! The 7th Annual Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta Golf Tournament returns on Monday, Oct. 13, at the Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, 740 Clifton Road.
Proceeds from this popular tournament benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta (MSCA), a non-profit health center dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and support of people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). Last year’s tournament raised more than $77,000, and event organizers expect to exceed that amount for 2008. To register or for corporate sponsorship information, contact Caroline Echols at (404) 697-7346 or caroline@wellspringresource.com. Sponsors for this year’s tournament include: EMD Serono, a 19th Hole Sponsor; Biogen Idec, an Eagle Sponsor; and Bioness, an Awards Sponsor.
Tournament sign-in begins at 10 a.m. on Oct. 13, followed by a warm-up round at 11:45 a.m. The shotgun start is at noon with an awards presentation at 5 p.m. Registration is $250 per player and $1,000 for a team of four, which includes lunch and the awards reception. The registration deadline is Oct. 5, 2008. Players can waive the tournament registration fee by participating in the Golf Ambassador Program, a program in which players raise donations through friends and family members. Each year, the Ambassadors raise a minimum of $1,500 each, and this year they can also qualify to win trips to play at prestigious golf courses around the world.
Dave Kewin, an avid golfer and MSCA Golf Ambassador Chair, was diagnosed with MS 10 years ago. Determined to continue his love of playing the sport, Kewin relearned his golf swing and now shoots in the low 80’s. “Just because you have MS it shouldn’t stop you from doing what you want. MS doesn’t tell me what to do,” he said.
The Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides comprehensive health care services for people living with MS. The Center’s mission is to improve the health and hope of MS patients through advocacy, education, state-of-the-art treatment and research, leading to a more promising future. The MSCA is located at 3200 Downwood Circle, Suite 550, in Atlanta. For more information, call 404-351-0205 or visit www.mscatl.org.
