Coach Devon Thomas has signed Morgan Smith, an all star catcher from Newton County High School, to a letter of intent to join the Brenau University Golden Tigers softball team in the fall of 2008. Smith has been a four year starter and three time all county selection at catcher while in high school. She broke the school record for home runs in a season with 10 and career with 20. She carried a .556 batting average her senior season with a .982 fielding percentage. Morgan is a three time All Academic Award winner and will graduate in the top 5% of her class. She is also active involved in the Amicae Junior Civitan Club. Coach Thomas said, "Morgan is another great addition to our 2008-09 roster. She is an excellent catcher with a very accurate throwing arm and as a hitter she possesses extraordinary power. She will make an immediate impact offensively her freshman season with her power at the plate and the ability to put the ball in play consistently."
