Not since October 28, 2003 has Brenau volleyball won a conference match in the SSAC. That streak came to an end today as the Tigers raced past Brewton Parker in three straight games (30-25, 30-26, and 30-28). Even more significantly, with the win Brenau advances to the SSAC Conference Tournament on November 8 in Mt. Vernon. In order to make the tournament, the Golden Tigers had to win this match in three games and they did just that, holding the Barons off time and again as they led all the way. This will mark Brenau's first trip to the conference playoffs since 2002. Audra VanArsdale, sophomore setter, led the way with 29 assists, 10 digs, 7 aces and 2 kills. Another sophomore, Karen Green was also big with 12 kills, 6 total blocks and one assist. Freshman Courtney Frady added 10 kills and 5 digs in the match. Sophomore libero Maida Smajic was steady with 22 digs and controlled the back row. "This was truly a team effort and we got contributions from everyone on the team in the match. It feels so good to get that monkey off our backs and get our first conference win," said Coach Meredith Matthews.
