MABLETON, GA – Hawks forward Shelden Williams; Thrashers defenseman Niclas Havelid; mascots Harry the Hawk and Thrash; and the A-Town Dancers, the Atlanta Hawks dance team, be will be helping build a Habitat for Humanity home in Mableton, Ga., between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. They will join approximately 20 HomeBanc volunteers and future Habitat homeowner, Katavol Ferrell, who will also be working on the home that day. Habitat for Humanity homeowners are required to invest sweat equity into their new home by working alongside volunteers.

HomeBanc Marketing Manager Janet Slaton coordinated the sports teams’ participation in this project.

The home is located on Hillcrest Drive in the Hillcrest West Habitat development that Habitat for Humanity of Cobb County has under way (see directions below). The Hillcrest West development is one of several Habitat for Humanity subdivisions under way in Cobb. Cobb Habitat homes feature large open floor plans, large front porches and varying architectural styles and finishes, including paint colors, brick- and stone-accented fronts and a variety of front porch column designs and configurations. These designs help the homes blend with the surrounding neighborhoods.

“Cobb Habitat is taking a holistic and forward-thinking approach to affordable housing by providing affordable, attractive homes that are close to the things people looking for affordable housing need – jobs and transportation,” said HomeBanc Community Affairs and HomeBanc Foundation Manager Amanda Albertelli. “We’re delighted to have representatives from the Hawks and Thrashers come out and share the joy of working alongside a future homeowner.”

In 2000, HomeBanc committed to building 100 Habitat for Humanity homes. This is the 31st house HomeBanc has sponsored and HomeBanc employees have built. To date, HomeBanc has built six homes with Cobb Habitat, including one in 2004 with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team.

When completed, the home will feature three bedrooms and 2 baths. Ferrell will share the home with her four children. Construction on the home began August 5 and should be complete by October 28.

Co-sponsors on the home are Fidelity National Title Insurance, First American Title Insurance and Neel & Robinson.
