Brenau University´s cross country team is sponsoring a family 5K run at North Forsyth High School in Cumming, Ga., on Sunday, Oct. 7, to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the cross country teams from the university and the high school.
This is the fourth "Fall sEason 5k run" established Brenau cross country Coach Susan McIntyre in memory of her friend Teresa Eason, who succumbed to the disease at age 44.
Starting at 2 p.m. with registration going on now, the event is not just for seasoned runners, McIntyre said. Family joggers and walkers are also invited to join in for the run on the relatively flat, closed course. Click on http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1468967 to register ahead of time through Oct. 3. Early registration is encouraged. Those who do register early will receive a t-shirt and goody bag.
"We have had kids as young as 7 years old participate in our race along with many walkers who wanted to remember a loved one," she said. "I hope everyone will consider bringing their families and friends on Oct. 7 to remember Teresa Eason and other people affected by breast cancer. And it´s a chance to help support the Brenau University and North Forsyth High School cross country teams. The race will be an enjoyable time for all."
McIntyre started the run three years ago after Eason died from the disease. Eason ran daily to stay in shape and always encouraged other to be healthy.
Fees for the event are $15 before Sept. 29 and $20 after.
North Forsyth High School is located at 3655 Coal Mountain Drive in Cumming, Ga.
