The Brenau tennis team participated in the Central Alabama Invitational over the weekend in Alexander City, AL and posted some impressive early season results. Freshman Hannah Thompson (Colchester, England) advanced all the way to the singles final before losing in three sets to Ana Varek on Meridian College (5-7, 7-5, 6-4) in a match that lasted 2 1/2 hours. Nelli Martirosyan also advanced to the consolation final before losing to Hartley of Montevallo, 6-2, 6-3. Both doubles teams (Paula Ghilardotti/Jolene Wong and Natalia Aranguren/Liubov Orlova) made the finals and will play the championship match at Brenau this week due to time constraints. Coach Gordon Leslie said that he was very pleased with the results and that this tournament serves as a good warmup for the ITA Regional Tournament to be played next weekend at Montgomery, AL.
