Even though the final outcome was a loss, the Brenau Golden Tigers (1-2, 4-4) proved that they are a team to be reckoned with in SSAC soccer by giving the NAIA #4 ranked Lee University Flames (4-0, 9-1) all they wanted before losing 3-1 in a great match. Lee started the match like they were going to run the Tigers off the field, scoring two goals in the first five minutes, but Brenau settled in and played one of the best teams in the nation even up the rest of the way. Junior sensation Alyssa Schmucker scored on an assist from Lily Futrell to make the score 2-1. Lee's last goal came near the end when Brenau made some changes to try and score the equalizer. "This was a great team effort," said Coach Mike Lochstampfor, "particularly by our four defenders (Kelly Young, Leanne Rowley, Mandy Ulseth, and Jennifer Rainey)." He also praised the play of Futrell and goalie Lisa Lesnick. With this effort, the Tigers set themselves up for a great run to the playoffs in November.
