Tigers Qualify for SSAC Championships

Published Feb 23, 2008

The Brenau Golden Tigers (16-11, 8-9) picked up a crucial SSAC win Thursday night at home as they defeated the Reinhardt Eagles (10-17, 5-12) 73-62. The win assures Brenau of a spot in the conference championships to be played in Cleveland, TN March 6-8. The young Tigers also assured themselves of a winning season in only their second year of existence. Reinhardt had defeated Brenau in early January 71-48, so this was sweet redemption for the Tigers. Sophomore Sarah Ledford, (Gilmer Co. HS) again led the way with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Two other sophomores, Vicky Wilson (16 points) and Paige Cooper (11 points) provided strong support in the win. Ledford was 11-14 from the field and Brenau shot a season best .490 from the field. They also knocked down 17-22 free throws. The Tigers jumped out to a 37-30 halftime advantage and led the entire second half, opening up a 57-40 lead with 4:00 to play. Next up for Brenau will be their final home game of the season on Saturday against Lee, currently ranked #2 in the nation and undefeated in the SSAC.
