Published Feb 17, 2008

The Brenau Golden Tigers basketball team (15-10, 7-8) won the biggest game of their short history Thursday when they upset the Shorter Hawks (17-7, 10-4) in Rome 68-60. Shorter was listed in the receiving votes category in the latest NAIA National poll. Junior guard Lori Pope scored a career high 22 points, including 6-11 from the 3 point stripe to lead the way for Brenau, who has now won four in a row and five of their last six as they continue to fight for a spot in the conference tournament in three weeks. The Tigers now hold down the sixth spot with five games to go. Sophomore guard Vicky Wilson scored 15 points, including 12-14 from the free throw line. Paige Cooper came off the bench to score 11 points and gathered five rebounds. After staking Shorter to a 25-17 halftime lead, the Tigers roared back in the second half to take the lead at 33-32 and led the rest of the game. Brenau's cause was helped greatly by a 19-23 effort from the free throw line. Next action for the Tigers will be back in Rome on Saturday against Berry.
