The Brenau Golden Tigers (15-11, 7-9) gave the Berry Vikings (20-5, 13-2)all they could handle Saturday afternoon in Rome, but came up short 73-71 on a driving layup at the buzzer by guard Nikki Jackson. Berry is currently ranked 25th in the National NAIA Top 25 poll. After staking the host team to a 47-31 halftime lead, the Tigers started chipping away early in the second half and tied the score at 61 with 10:26 remaining. From that point on the game stayed within 4 points the rest of the way. Sophomore post Sarah Ledford (Gilmer Co. HS) had career bests with 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead Brenau. Paige Cooper contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds, and Vicky Wilson had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Berry shot a sizzling .545 from the field for the game. Brenau had one of its better shooting nights at .453. Next action for Brenau will be at home next Thursday against Reinhardt, a team they are battling with for a playoff spot.
