Members of the City Council welcomed Yuxiang Long and his delegation from the China International Cultural Communication Center to Atlanta on Monday. Several Chinese companies have located in Georgia in the recent years. City officials hope additional Chinese businesses will call Atlanta home in the future.
Long’s visit to the United States is part of an effort to promote cultural and economic exchange between our countries.
“China has been one of the fastest growing export markets for the US in the recent years and Georgia is one of the states benefiting from this partnership,” Council President Borders said. “It is a pleasure to welcome Chairman Long and his delegation to Atlanta and we look forward to strengthening our ties culturally and economically in the years to come. With Delta Airline’s direct flight to Shanghai, Atlanta and the state of Georgia are poised to become an even larger economic partner with this rapidly growing country."
In 2007, China was Georgia’s second-largest export destination at $1.6 billion. Imports from China flowing through the Port of Savannah totaled $13 billion. The Georgia United States Customs District ranked seventh among all U.S. districts for exports and imports with China and second on the east coast.
