Georgia Department of Transportation announces a traffic shift along State Route 53/Winder Highway from Union Place to Cedar Ridge Drive in Oakwood.
Weather permitting on Tuesday; crews will begin shifting Winder Highway traffic onto new asphalt starting at Union Place continuing to Cedar Ridge Drive (next to Hollywood Video). If weather does not permit the shift to occur March 18; it will be rescheduled for Wednesday, March 19.
“We are shifting traffic onto the new lanes that will eventually be the eastbound lanes of SR 53,” said DOT District Engineer Russell McMurry. “This shift allows us to upgrade the “old” lanes that will eventually become the westbound lanes of SR 53. I’d like to thank you for your patience during construction. This project is going well and is ahead of schedule.”
Georgia DOT advises motorists to slow down and plan for extra time when driving through any work zone. ALL fines are doubled in Georgia DOT work zones.
The 4.66 mile widening of Winder Highway from east of State Route 13 to east of State Route 211/Tanners Mill Road is expected to be completed December 31 with an estimated construction cost of $24.8 million.
