The Gainesville Police Department is still investigating a Burglary that occurred on January 31st 2008 at the business of Gainesville Jewelry located at 1020 Jesse Jewell Parkway.
The store’s surveillance equipment recorded four (4) individuals forcibly entering the business through its main doors and then forcibly entering several jewelry cases stealing numerous pieces of jewelry valued at over $200,000. The perpetrators then left the store occupying a dark colored passenger vehicle, make and model unknown.
Investigators learned that the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office had arrested three (3) individuals yesterday on unrelated charges, following a traffic stop. In their possession was a quantity of jewelry.
Investigators have also learned that the Butts County Sheriff’s Office had arrested two (2) individuals yesterday also on unrelated charges, following a traffic stop. These individuals also had in their possession a quantity of jewelry.
Gainesville Police Department Investigators were sent to both jurisdictions to determine if in fact these individuals were involved in the burglary at Gainesville Jewelry. At the time of this release it has been determined that those arrested had a quantity of the jewelry in their possession which belongs to Gainesville Jewelry. All five (5) individuals have been charged with Theft by Receiving by the agency in the county in which they are being held.
The investigation has further uncovered that these individuals are not only connected to the Gainesville Jewelry burglary but they are also connected to the burglary of Dimo’s Fine Jewelry (1318 Browns Bridge Rd, Gainesville, GA) which occurred on July 14th, 2007.
It has not been determined to what extent the individuals being held have in these burglaries and no charges have been filed by the Gainesville Police Department at this time.
Both incidents are still under investigation by members of the Gainesville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division along with assistance of the Lowndes County and Butts County Sheriff’s Offices.
