Georgia DOT in collaboration with the City of Cleveland continues to implement operational improvements to the Downtown Square.

The City of Cleveland purchased three new decorative mast arms to replace existing wooden signal poles. Monday, October 20, 2008 Georgia DOT crews will be on site to dig and pour the footings for the mast arms. This work will occur next week from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., daily.

“We’ve been working with the City for over a year to improve traffic flow and allow pedestrian access to the southern end of the Square,” said Georgia DOT District Engineer Russell McMurry.

Georgia DOT crews have also completed an operational improvement project from SR 115 east to US 129 south, expanding the turning radius from 5 feet to 75 feet. Tractor trailers can now navigate the turn easier. Georgia DOT crews are also building three crosswalks and installing pedestrian signals to allow protected walking access across US 129 and SR 115.

Work on Cleveland Square is scheduled for completion by Thanksgiving. Motorists should expect lane closures on a continuing basis and are advised to use extra caution in construction work zones.

DOT crews are also building three crosswalks and installing pedestrian signals to allow protected walking access across US 129 and SR 115. If weather allows; all work on the Cleveland Square should be completed by Thanksgiving.
