The GainesvillePublic Works Department
is nearing completion on a storm water outfall and channel mapping project required by the State municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) program. The program, which requires municipalities to map the storm sewer system, started in the summer of 2003.
The City also decided to map the channels leading to live streams in order to identify “outfalls” into state waters. The data will be used by thePublic Utilities Department
as part of the outfall screening program in hopes of reducing the adverse effects of storm water on water quality, thus improving the general health of water bodies. The projected completion date is October 31, 2008.
