Governor Sonny Perdue will continue a long-standing state tradition by proclaiming November 11th as “Veterans Day in Georgia” during a 1:30 p.m. ceremony on Wednesday, October 22th at the State Capitol.

The annual event, which has been held every year since 1954 at the State Capital , attracts the area’s top military leaders, key members of the Georgia legislature, and the leaders of the state’s veterans’ organizations and their auxiliaries.

“This is an excellent way to express to our veterans and their families how much we appreciate their dedication and sacrifice having served to defend and preserve the freedoms and liberties that we enjoy today,” noted Georgia Commissioner of Veterans Affairs Pete Wheeler. “I encourage all who can to attend and show their patriotism and support to the men and women of our United States Armed Forces.

The program will take place inside the Capitol Rotunda and is open to the public.

Georgia has over 766,000 veterans residing in the state, which ranks it in the top 10 for veteran population in the country.
