Georgia DOT will begin resurfacing State Route 145 and State Route 8 in Franklin County on Monday, July 28th at 8:30 a.m., weather permitting.  The State Route 145 portion of the project extends from State Route 8 to State Route 59.  The State Route 8 portion begins west of West Clark Circle and extends east to Cobb Memorial Drive.

The project includes a total of 9.35 miles of resurfacing, milling (asphalt removal), and shoulder reconstruction.  The contractor is C.W. Matthews Contracting Company and the cost is just over $1.7 million.  The scheduled completion date is September 30 and work will continue daily until then.  Some weekend work will also be required.

“Motorists should to remember that this is a work zone and we are reducing the speed limit to 35 miles per hour,” said DOT District Engineer Russell McMurry.  “They need to slow down, not only for safety reasons, but to keep their money in their wallets.  Speeding fines are doubled in work zones.”

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this project. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, construction, and delays due to bad weather. Callers can also reach live operators to request assistance or report incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. More information is available at www.511ga.org.
