Chambliss Kickoff Rally Draws Thousands of Supporters

Published Sep 13, 2008

U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga) Saturday, September 13th,  kicked off his campaign with a rally with thousands of supporters at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel at the Cobb Galleria.

“This campaign year has been unlike any other and the great turn-out today is just a preview of what we can expect in November,” Saxby said. “Julianne and I are so thankful to have the support of so many Georgians.  As we travel around the state, we are talking about solutions to rising gas prices, solutions to our stagnant economy and winning the war in Iraq.  I am excited about our campaign here in Georgia, and I am excited about electing John McCain and Sarah Palin as our next President and Vice President!”

Saxby was joined by Governor Sonny Perdue, U. S. Senator Johnny Isakson, Secretary of State Karen Handel, State School Superintendent Kathy Cox, Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, U.S. Representative Tom Price, U.S. Representative Lynn Westmoreland, U.S. Representative Paul Broun and U.S. Representative Phil Gingrey.

In a surprise phone call, Senator John McCain addressed the crowd to roaring applause.  He thanked everyone for their support of his campaign and for Saxby’s campaign in Georgia, and urged everyone to work hard to see that Saxby is re-elected in November.

Saxby is seeking re-election for his second term in the United States Senate.  His re-election has been endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 180 Georgia County Commissioners, 190 city officials, 239 law enforcement officers and over 100 Georgia Democrats.  He is the Ranking Republican Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Rules Committee.  Saxby previously represented Georgia’s 8th congressional district for four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives where he served as the Chairman of the House Intelligence Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security.
