The Gainesville Police Department is Investigating a Rash of Vehicle Vandalism Incidents

The Gainesville Police Department is investigating a rash of vehicle vandalism incidents that occurred over the holiday weekend.  The department has received a total of 40 (forty) reports indicating slashed tires on 40 (forty) vehicles that occurred from Thursday evening (08-28-08) through Tuesday morning (09-02-08).  The locations where the incidents occurred are as follows:

Reported on Friday (08-29-08):  

One (1) vehicle had tires slashed at North Point Apartments. The damage was estimated at $320.00.  One (1) vehicle had tires slashed at 345 Green St.  The damage was estimated at $60.00.  One (1) vehicle was damaged at 1750 Norton Drive at Glenn Cove Apartments.  The damage was estimated to be $790.00 of which $240.00 was damage to tires.  

The total damage reported on Friday was estimated at $1,170.

Reported on Sunday (08-31-08):

Thirty-two (32) vehicles had tires slashed at Carrington Park Apartments off of Dawsonville Hwy.  The total damage was estimated at $4,273.00.

Reported on Tuesday (09-02-08):

Five (5) vehicles had tires slashed at 1540 Monroe Dr. at the business of Fieldale.  The total damage was estimated at $900.00.

The total damage over the weekend is estimated at $6,883.00.  Other than the damage caused being consistent it is unknown at this time if all of these incidents are related.  

The incidents are under investigation by members of the Gainesville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
