The dedication of the Linwood Water Reclamation Facility today is a milestone for our City and further evidence that we are committed to treating wastewater to the highest level possible before returning it to the lake. The plant is an advanced treatment facility utilizing membrane filtration to meet new treatment standards set by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. The technology at this facility is years beyond anything we could have imagined when I first joined the Council. The recent upgrade also includes bus parking, along with a new picnic pavilion to encourage school participation at every level.

There is nothing that makes me feel better as a Council Member than to see citizens involved in local government. On May 20 I watched as 21 people graduated from the 2008 session of the Citizens’ Government Academy at Chattahoochee Golf Course. After graduation, the class showed us just how much they’ve learned by asking questions about City services and City needs. I am confident there are many future leaders among us.
Lastly, enjoy your summer! If gas prices are too much for you to handle, there's plenty to see and do right here in Gainesville. If you need some ideas contact the Lake Lanier Convention and Visitors Bureau or Gainesville Parks and Recreation and they'll make all your summer dreams come true!
If you have any questions about participating in the next Citizens’ Government Academy or a tour of Linwood WRF email citycouncil@gainesville.org or call me at 770-535-6865.
