Letter to the Editor

With the election just days away, the MSM appears to have buried the war against terrorism – out of sight, out of mind. Well, I hope Americans are not reminded about how vulnerable we still are to terrorists’ attacks in this nation (and how fortunate we have been for the past 7 year) by another attack on our shores. I also hope our troops and fellow Americans traveling abroad do not suffer from terrorists’ attacks.

Nevertheless, Senator Biden, bless his heart, tried to raise the issue with his “Mark my words” comment. His comments have been largely dismissed among liberal pundits in favor of the cost of candidates’ clothing. I hope our readers can drag themselves away from silly political hoopla long enough to consider one more issue the next Commander-in-Chief will face on Day One.

Months ago I agreed with those who predicted an Obama presidency would entice Islamic terrorists to test a young, inexperienced, dovish president. A few of my Democratic acquaintances scoffed that I would stoop to such low indefensible rhetoric. Then along came Joe….

October 20, Joe Biden (venerable Democratic brain trust of foreign affairs) said, “Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

Biden did not give the same odds on a McCain presidency. His words deliberately and specifically focused on his running mate’s qualifications.

Though the mainstream media (MSM) have grown eerily silent about Afghanistan and Iraq, US military men and women have been quietly succeeding where Washington has failed.

Besides returning military control over 13 of 18 provinces to Iraqi troops, US forces recently completed a secret operation moving 550 metric tons of uranium from Saddam Hussein’s nuclear warehouses to Canada.

Didn’t hear about that in the MSM? Why wouldn’t the MSM report on such a WMD find? Maybe they were too busy planning a coronation for the next president.

July 5, 2008, the AP reported, “The removal of 550 metric tons of ‘yellowcake’ — the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment — was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam's nuclear legacy. It also brought relief to U.S. and Iraqi authorities who had worried the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid its nuclear ambitions.”

When did World War III begin? The US is not fighting two wars (Afghanistan and Iraq). WWII, in spite of its singular moniker was two separate wars against two separate enemies, while the current war is against one enemy: Islamic terrorists.

Though some say Islamic terrorists declared war on the West and Israel as early as Munich Olympics of 1972, America did not appear to notice a declaration of war against us until 9/11.

Robert Baer, former CIA field operative, traces Islam-West conflicts all the way back to the end of WWII when US struck a deal with Saudi Arabia (or vice versa) exchanging oil for protection.

Baer’s interesting perspective in “Sleeping with the Devil: How Washington Sold Our Soul for Saudi Crude,” calls President Roosevelt’s deal with Farouk I of Saudi Arabia in 1945 the second leg (money and power) of a triangle. The first leg, Wahhabism (Islam v. Christianity) was born two centuries earlier. And the wild card catalyst, Wahhabis v. industrial West (terrorism v. nationalism) became the third leg.

Michael Scheuer, a former CIA analyst “focused exclusively on terrorism, Islamic insurgencies, militant Islam, and the affairs of South Asia – Afghanistan and Pakistan,” has explained ‘why the West is losing the war on terror’ in his book, “Imperial Hubris.”

Referencing Osama bin Laden’s demands leading up to 9/11, Scheuer writes six conclusions any “fair-minded individual would draw” from reading “a representative sample of relevant open-source literature.”

Three of Scheurer’s conclusions:
1.     “Bin Laden has been precise in telling America the reasons he is waging war on us. None of the reasons have anything to do with our freedom, liberty, and democracy, but have everything to do with U.S. policies and actions in the Muslim world.”

2.     “The war bin Laden is waging has everything to do with the tenets of the Islamic religion. He could not have his current – and increasing – level of success if Muslims did not believe their faith, brethren, resources, and lands to be under attack by the United States and, more generally, the West. Indeed, the United States, and its policies and actions, are bin Laden’s only indispensable allies.”

3.     “This war has the potential to last beyond our children’s lifetimes and to be fought mostly on U.S. soil.”

America is on the precipice of installing the most liberal socialistic government in our history. We are in the throes of a worldwide war against Islamic terrorism. America needs a strong Commander-in-Chief.
