Atlanta Gas Light, a subsidiary of AGL Resources Inc, has made a $10,000 donation to Gwinnett Technical College. The gift was made through The AGL Resources' Private Foundation on behalf of Atlanta Gas Light to fund scholarships supporting workforce education and recruitment.
"Gwinnett Technical College is an excellent educational institution and we're very proud to support them as they meet the workforce training needs of our community," said Wendell Dallas, vice president, Atlanta Gas Light. "Education is a valued resource at our company. We look forward to building on our relationship with the college and its students."
Gwinnett Tech President Sharon Bartels adds, "Atlanta Gas Light has a strong history of supporting education at all levels. Here at Gwinnett Tech, they were one of the earliest supporters of the Hudgens Early Education Center with a donation during our capital drive. This new donation will now fund scholarships at the Hudgens Center to ensure that more children have access to quality early education."
Funds from the AGL donation will be used to defray tuition costs at the D. Scott Hudgens, Jr. Early Education Center, enabling some parents enrolled at Gwinnett Tech to secure childcare for their children while they attend college classes.
Opened in August 2006, the Hudgens Center is a 26,000-square-foot, two-story facility located on the Gwinnett Tech campus. Built with state-of-the-art communications and security features, the Center offers low teacher-to-student ratios and high teacher-education requirements, while also following the accreditation standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
The Hudgens Center provides childcare and preschool to the community, offering infant and toddler care, preschool, Montessori, Georgia Pre-K classes and before- and after-school care, serving children six weeks to 8 years old. The Hudgens Center is also a model teaching center for Gwinnett Tech's Early Childhood Education program.
The Hudgens Center was recently honored by the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education for modeling best practices in early education.
Gwinnett Tech offers more than 45 degree, diploma and certificate program options. For more information, call 770-962-7580 or visit www.gwinnetttech.edu.
