Georgia and most of the country are expoeriencing heat waves. Heat related illness may be prevented or decreased through heat safety measures that can help prevent or decrease the risk.
Included in these measure are:
Noon to 9 PM, usually the hottest part of the day, try to avoid any strenuous outdoor activity.
Gradually increasing your exposure to physical activity in the heat, acclimates you to the heat. Know that it may take 10 - 14 days to become acclimated.
Drinking 8 ounces of water before being active in the heat begins the process of being well hydrated. Taking a break every 15 - 20 minutes to drink another 8 ounces of water during the activity is suggested. Take frequent breaks out of the direct sun while working or playing outside as well as drinking plenty of water.
Wear single layered, lightweight, absorbent, light colored clothing that allows body sweat to evaporate.
North Georgia forecasts dangerously high heat index up to 106- 108 degrees for most of the week.
