American tenor Robert Breault will appear in Brenau University´s Pearce Auditorium in a recital on Monday, Oct. 13, inaugurating the fourth season of performances presented by Brenau´s International Opera Center.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $7.50 at the door, but students - including those from Gainesville and Hall County public and private schools - will be admitted free.

"We are extremely fortunate to have a singer of Bob Breault´s caliber to appear on our stage," said William Fred Scott, director of the International Opera Center. "He is a truly mesmerizing performer - a great actor and a great singer. For those who have never experienced the beauty and emotion of classical singing, spending an evening with Breault is a great place to begin."

Breault´s recital will include songs by Beethoven, Schumann and Liszt as well as some of opera´s most beloved arias, including "Una furtiva lagrima" from The Elixir of Love, "E lucevan le stelle" from Puccini´s Tosca and the "Flower song" from Carmen. He will be accompanied by pianist Craig Kier.

The critically acclaimed Breault enjoys an international reputation built on opera, oratorio, recital and concert work. In the 2008-09 season alone, the versatile and charismatic tenor will perform in operas by Handel and Gluck, in Beethoven´s monumental Ninth Symphony, Berlioz´s even more monumental "Requiem" and on recital platforms around the country.

Breault created the role of Tom Morgan in Laurent Petitgirard´s operatic version of "The Elephant Man," recorded with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo and available as a DVD from the Opéra de Nice, France.

He regularly appears in opera companies around the United States, including The New York City Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Madison Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Ft. Worth Opera, Arizona Opera and the San Francisco Western Opera Theatre. He has appeared many times in Georgia as a regular member of the Atlanta Opera Company with Scott, who was the opera´s principle conductor before joined the Brenau opera program. Breault made his Atlanta Symphony debut - as the tenor soloist in Beethoven´s Ninth Symphony under direction of Yoel Levi. He also has performed with the Montreal Symphony, Washington National Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony and the Toronto Symphony, among others. Engagements have included appearances at New York´s Carnegie Hall and on tour with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Wisconsin-born Breault also has impressive credentials as an educator. He received a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan in 1991 and is currently the director of opera and distinguished professor of music at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He will remain on the Brenau campus Oct. 14 to conduct a class with Brenau music students.
