Beginning September 24 participating schools will start receiving No Idling toolkits with a special message from Lightning McQueen reminding parents to turn off engines when dropping off and picking up kids from school because it protects children’s lungs and the environment. When McQueen arrives into town duringWorlds of Fantasy

(Philips Arena, October 22-26), he will visit DeKalb Elementary School of the Arts on October 23 to show continued support and express appreciation for his car friends’ dedication.

Feld Entertainment

, producer ofDisney on Ice

, felt it was a natural alignment to have McQueen involved in this campaign because it’s easy to identify with the program. “Lightning McQueen knows that all of us can play a part in using our cars responsibly, finding everyday ways to decrease air pollution, just like Atlanta parents are doing thanks to The Clean Air Campaign,” said Crystal Drake, Feld’s Southeast Regional Public Relations Manager. “Every little bit helps to reduce our carbon footprints”

The World Health Organization found that particle pollution and ground-level ozone aggravated asthma in children and contributed to an increased risk of respiratory tract infection. Since its inception, The Clean Air Campaign No- Idling Program has reduced emissions from idling vehicles at approximately 30 schools by up to 90% and realized a 69% reduction in emissions on school grounds.

“Our plan for the campaign this school year is to surpass our already impressive results,” said Susan Bacon, director of education for The Clean Air Campaign. “We’re thankful to partner with Lightning McQueen and know his participation will help us reach our goals.”

During the No Idling Program period (September through May), participating schools will collect baseline data as a starting point before distributing campaign information. Afterwards, each school will regularly track the number of idling and non-idling cars to determine results which will be announced in May 2009.

About The Clean Air Campaign

The Clean Air Campaign is a not-for-profit organization that works with Georgia’s employers, commuters and schools to encourage actions that result in less traffic congestion and better air quality. To accomplish this goal, The Clean Air Campaign, along with its associate organizations, partners with more than 1,450 employers to create custom commute options programs; and annually helps thousands of commuters find commute alternatives that work for them, providing financial incentives to get them started. The Clean Air Campaign also protects public health by issuing Smog Alerts and empowers students, parents and teachers to play a positive role in reducing traffic and cleaning the air through a multi-faceted education program reaching elementary, middle and high schools.

Each day, these programs reduce 1.2 million miles of vehicle travel and keep 600 tons of pollution out of the air we breathe. For more information, call 1-877-CLEANAIR (1-877-253-2624) or visitCleanAirCampaign.com
