Comcast will host a telethon on Saturday, October 21 to benefit the American Cancer Society’s 8th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Atlanta, with a goal of raising $50,000 for the annual walk. The telethon, scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. on Comcast’s Community Television Channel 25, will lead into Making Strides Against Breast Cancer the next Saturday, October 28.

“We are very pleased that Comcast is providing this wonderful opportunity to raise money and awareness for breast cancer and to support Making Strides Against Breast Cancer,” said Sandy Ray, the Society’s Regional Executive Director for Metro Atlanta. “Breast cancer will strike more than 200,000 women in the United States this year – 6,000 of them in Georgia – so it’s important to raise funds for research and other programs that will help us stamp out this terrible disease.”

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the Society’s premier breast cancer event. The non competitive three-mile walk is scheduled for Saturday, October 28 in Atlantic Station. More than 6,000 participants are expected to turn out for the walk, including thousands of breast cancer survivors.

The telethon will be broadcast live from Comcast’s community television studios and will feature breast cancer survivors, American Cancer Society volunteers and donors, Atlanta-area corporate partners, entertainment by local bands and performers, and much more. Guest hosts will include Gene Norman, chief meteorologist on WGCL-TV Channel 46, Jennifer Leslie of WXIA-TV, and Connie Stokes, a member of the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners.

Sponsors of the telethon, in addition to Comcast, include UPS, Verizon, Northlake Medical Center, Curves, AGL, Georgia Power and Bowling Green Alumni Association.
