The competition was stiff, but out of more than a thousand applicants, 12 finalists have been selected and you’ll meet them and hear their stories for the first time today Monday, September 22! 11Alive’s Karyn Greer officially introduced all 12 contestants this week on 11Alive News at 6 a.m. Then, as the contest kicks into high gear, all twelve Atlanta’s Biggest Loser finalists will be divided into two teams, red vs. blue, men vs. the women, and let the competition begin! Each team will start a vigorous workout regimen with one of our two fitness partners, Mari Garner’s American Boot Camp Company or Adrenaline Fitness and Wellness, and throughout the competition, each participant will receive a 5-day a week complimentary meal plan of healthy, nutritionally balanced Good Measure Meals to aid in their weight-loss goals.
Meet the members of the Blue Team (women) who will work out with Adrenaline Fitness and Wellness:
Taneya – 25-year-old flight attendant from College Park who wants to get in shape before her wedding.
Tara – 34-year-old special education teacher who has been struggling with her weight since college.
Kim – 41-year-old Atlanta real estate agent who lost both parents due to health issues as a result of being obese.
Erica – 44-year-old Atlanta divorcee who wants to get healthy so she can adopt a child.
Cheryl – 48-year-old homemaker who wants to be around to see her 3-year old grandchild grow-up.
Karen – 52-year-old who wants to get in shape for her son Brian’s wedding. (He is currently serving in Iraq.)
And here are the Red Team Members (men) who will be working out with Mari Garner from American Boot Camp Company:
Justin – 28 year old professional DJ who doesn’t want to live up to his DJ-Phats name.
Tommy – 30-year-old sergeant with APD – who wants to get healthy so he won’t be like his father who has had multiple heart attacks.
Sylvester – 32-year-old gospel singing family man who is raising five children ages 2-17 and caring for his wife.
Scott – 37-year-old Boy Scout leader wants to get in shape so he can take his son and the scouts on a 10-day hike in New Mexico.
Tom – 41-year-old professional chef who wants to be around to play with his daughters, one of whom was born with Down syndrome.
Jimmy – 45-year-old single dad who wants to get his diabetes and other illnesses under control so he can be there for his 15-year-old daughter.
Plus, beginning this Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. on 11Alive’s Atlanta & Company, hosts Holly Firfer and Tom Sullivan along with the Atlanta’s Biggest Loser sponsors will chart each contestant’s progress. On alternate Wednesdays, finalists from either the blue team or the red team will reveal their weigh-in results and you’ll choose which one of the two contestants who have lost the least percentage of body weight will be eliminated. Voting will take place each week on-line on www.atlbiggestloser.com, with results to be announced each Friday at 11:00 a.m. on Atlanta & Company.
