Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer Awards Grants to Local Breast Cancer Organizations

Published Apr 21, 2008

The Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer (2-Day) recently awarded 20 grants to local breast cancer organizations at its fifth annual Grant Presentation at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Buckhead. The grants were made possible by proceeds from the September 2007 Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

“This is my favorite time of year, when we have the privilege of awarding grants to Atlanta breast cancer organizations who serve our community,” said Randi Passoff, founder and executive director of the 2-Day Walk. “These deserving organizations are making a difference in various ways, such as establishing support groups, providing transportation to appointments, mammograms for uninsured or underinsured women, and education to help women in their journey to recovery. We are honored to be part of their work through grants, but this event was also made possible by the walkers and our sponsors who opened their hearts and wallets to give hope to area women battling breast cancer.”

2-Day’s newest grantee is Masjid Annur, Essential Living for Muslim Women, Inc. The 2-Day has also awarded grants to several area hospitals and a diverse group of programs, including the Atlanta Lesbian Health Initiative; the Center for Pan Asian Community Services; Henry W. Grady Health System Foundation for the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence at Grady; Sisters…By Choice, Inc.; and The Wellness Community.

The annual Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer raises money for breast cancer awareness, research and support organizations that reach out to Atlanta’s diverse population, including Hispanics, Asians, African-American and low-income women. Since its first event in 2003, the 2-Day Walk has raised over $4 million and awarded 85 gifts and grants. The organization gives back 70 percent of funds raised to fight breast cancer locally.
