Heritage Festival Saturday November 1, in downtown Clarkesville, GA

A heritage festival celebrating 175 years of Clarkesville’s history will be held on the grounds of Grace Calvary Church on Saturday, November 1 from 10AM – 4:00 PM. The festival will provide a look at the world of Clarkesville in the mid 19th century, including the arts and cultural world of the period, and the historical structures of the town including the 1840’s Grace Calvary Church.

Period events and exhibits will feature 19th century home-making demonstrations, 19th century music; a walking tour of historic Clarkesville including the cemetery, gardens, churches and several historic homes; cotillion dancing; choral and solo performances of 19th century church music, and a very special organ concert featuring Georgia’s oldest organ played by William Fred Scott with soprano Barbara Steinhaus. There will be food and art for sale on the church grounds. Admission to the festival is free of charge. Charge for the guided walking tour is $10.00 per person or $25.00 for a family.

On Saturday evening a dinner with a silent and live auction will be held in on the church grounds. Tickets to the banquet are $25.00 per person and are available at the church office 706-754-2451.

Sunday morning worship services based on the 19th Century Episcopal liturgy will be conducted by the Rt. Rev. Frank K. Allen, retired bishop of Atlanta, whose ancestor, E. B. Kellogg, was the founder of Grace Church. Breakfast will be served between services.
