Gwinnett Technical College's fall enrollment increased 11 percent over the same period last year, marking the seventh consecutive quarter of double-digit enrollment growth for the credit program at the college. Fall quarter enrollment was 5,365.
Gwinnett Tech recorded a dramatic increase in new student applications, up 57 percent over the same period last year. Applications from recent high school graduates were also up sharply, with an increase of 54 percent over fall quarter 2007. First-time student enrollees to Gwinnett Tech increased 9 percent.
"We're continuing to see very strong, very consistent enrollment growth and great response to our career-focused education. Notably, in the most recent quarters, we're seeing more full-time students, more recent high school graduates and more credit hours taken," explains Sharon Bartels, president, Gwinnett Technical College.
"Certainly, in challenging economic times, the value of education and training takes on even greater importance. With hundreds of associate degree, diploma and certificate options, flexible scheduling, extensive online course offerings, and affordable tuition, Gwinnett Tech is the perfect answer to students ready to launch a rewarding career – or even train for a new one," she adds.
The strongest enrollment increases were seen in computer sciences, early education, health sciences, business and accounting, and criminal justice programs.
Gwinnett Tech offers more than 140 degree, diploma and certificate options that can be finished in two years or less, including programs in arts and sciences; automotive technology; business and finance; computer sciences; construction; cosmetology; culinary arts and hotel restaurant and tourism management; early education; health sciences; horticulture; machine tool and welding; public safety and service; veterinary technology; and visual arts, fashion and design.
