High School Girls Don Hard Hats for Hands-On MAGIC Camp

Gwinnett Tech Hosts MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) Summer Camp, June 9 -13...

WHAT:  Hard hats are not typically required at summer camp – and that's just one unique aspect of MAGIC Summer Camp. Area high school students – all girls – will attend the MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) event from Monday, June 9 – Friday, June 13 at Gwinnett Technical College. Now in its second year, the camp is sponsored by the Sugarloaf Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) to introduce high school girls to the opportunities available to them in the construction industry.

Gwinnett Tech will host instructors from Maxwell High School of Technology and journey level tradeswomen to teach safety, carpentry, electrical and welding skills during the free week-long program.  At the end of the week, campers will take home a lamp, toolbox and other projects they make.  They will also participate in a field trip to an active construction site to see how the skills they are studying are implemented in the field.
