Georgia Travel Guide is Golden at the 17th Annual GAMMA Awards

Published Aug 7, 2008

The Georgia Travel Guide came away a strong winner after taking home one of the most coveted awards at the 17th Annual 2007 GAMMA Awards held in May 2008. The Travel Guide was awarded the Gold in the category of Best Single Issue (published 3 times a year or less), Consumer/Free.

The GAMMA Awards recognize editorial and design excellence in magazine publishing, as determined by a select group of magazine editors and designers. The Georgia Travel Guide award was one of seven won by the guide’s publisher, Atlanta Magazine Custom Publishing (AMCP), at this year’s GAMMA Awards celebration.

Atlanta Magazine Custom Publishing and the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) coproduce the Georgia Travel Guide.

“The Travel Guide serves as our main fulfillment piece, and encourages travelers and Georgians to explore our state,” said Charlie Gatlin, Deputy Commissioner for Tourism and Marketing, GDEcD. “Atlanta Magazine Custom Publishing once again took our guide to the next level and we are thrilled to be recognized by the GAMMA Awards.”

The judges’ comments included the observation that “the Georgia Travel Guide balances its mission of providing about-Georgia content with lots of resource lists and indexes. The look is clean and sleek, yet welcoming.”

The domestic version of the guide includes 216 pages, and is divided into sections, each representing one of nine tourism marketing regions in the state. Each section includes a map and introductory feature as well as comprehensive listings of the region’s attractions, visitor resources and lodging. The guide also includes feature articles that promote various aspects of the visitor experience, such as Southern Goodness: Key foods in Georgia’s culture; The Show Must Go On: Georgia renovates and saves its theaters; Fun on the Water: Activities on and near the water abound across the state; One of a Kind: the products of craftsmen are abundant in Georgia and Fruits of Labor: Georgia’s luscious produce offers great eating and entertainment.

The Georgia Travel Guide is available at the state’s eleven Visitor Information Centers, online at www.exploregeorgia.org, or by calling 1-800-VISIT GA.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) is the state's sales and marketing arm, the lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, locating new markets for Georgia products, attracting tourists to Georgia, and promoting the state as a location for film, video and music projects, as well as planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development.
